South Carolina Road Trip | Travel

South Carolina Road Trip | Travel | Alaina Ann Photography I was thrilled to hit the road for the first time in 2014 :) Winter was a bit of a hibernation period here in Maryland with the cold temperatures, ample snow and catching up from a busy 2013.

I planned my first road trip around my Clemson Crew reunion in South Carolina. Many of my dear friends were heading into town for the 25th reunion of the crew team. This was a perfect opportunity to visit a handful of my 556 in 12 locations before and after arriving in Clemson!

South Carolina Road Trip
  • I stretched my legs with a family visit in North Carolina :)
  • Congaree National Park
  • Ninety Six National Historic Site
  • Sumter National Forest
  • Clemson
  • Cowpens National Battlefield
  • Kings Mountain National Military Park

I am already planning a return visit to Congaree National Park and Sumter National Forest, likely in the fall (October/November). Although both were beautiful during my visit, I would love to see each during peak fall foliage season!

More detailed travel posts for each location will be on the blog in the near future!

556 Locations in 12 Years | Travel

556 Locations in 12 Years | Travel | Alaina Ann Photography Last week, while getting the mail, I had the pleasure of running into a dear friend and her daughter {they live up the street}. When asked if I had traveled to any new places since I last saw them {two months ago}, my answer was no. NO?! How is that possible? I am always on the move and going to new places, both near and far.

Naturally, I came inside, sat at my desk, and began thinking of new places to visit and photograph. As you know, I decided a few years ago to visit every National Park {59 total} by the time I am 45 years old. This goal, over 1/3 of the way complete, got me thinking and researching.

There are 401 National Park units in the United States. I have visited many throughout my life, but have only photographed a small portion of them. Since I want to return to every National Park I have already photographed, I decided to set a new goal :)

Over the next twelve years I am going to set out to visit and photograph all 401 National Park units in the United States! With 50 units in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., I suddenly have a new motivation and excitement to start exploring locally.

As I began to look at the units in each state, I remembered the National Forests are maintained by the U.S. Forest Service {not the National Park Service}. Thus, I have added the 155 National Forests to my list as well!

I have started to add new destinations to my 2014 travel bucket list and plan to get started this month :)

New goal: 556 locations in 12 years. I think this is going to be a fun, challenging and awesome goal to fulfill!

California Road Trip | Travel

I am in California :) It feels quite wonderful to be back out west! I have been itching to travel since the moment I parked my car in the driveway after driving across the country. I knew June, July and August would be busy months with a sitting Jetta. I decided to drive out to California, from Las Vegas, before an upcoming work trip with Alaina Ann Creative. I booked my travel weeks ago, before realizing Yosemite National Park and Death Valley National Park are within driving distance to Las Vegas. After poring over a map and chatting with a good friend about the area, I decided to change my reservation and fly out early :)

Over the course of five days, I will visit a handful of photographically pleasing areas!

  • Death Valley National Park
  • Alabama Hills
  • Bodie State Historic Park
  • Mono Lake
  • Yosemite National Park
  • Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest
  • Sequoia National Forest
  • Red Rock Canyon State Park

As you might expect, I will be sharing iPhone photographs along the way on Instagram and Facebook :)
