Sam Houston National Forest was my final Texas national forest stop. I managed to see all four of the national forests in this great state over the course of 24 hours!
Favorite Hikes + Places to Explore
- Big Creek Scenic Area – contains four loops of the Lone Star Hiking Trail.
- Double Lake Recreation Area – located on the east side of the national forest, with lake, whispering pine and hardwood goodness to enjoy.
- Little Lake Creek Wilderness – about five miles north of Montgomery, with three major creeks channeling through the area.
- Lone Star Hiking Trail – a 128 mile trail with three distinct sections: Lake Conroe, Central Area and Winters Bayou/Tarkington Creek Area.
